Prestigious wineries such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia were the pioneers of putting the coastal village of Bolgheri on the map for wine lovers from all over the world. Today the coastline from Grosseto to Livorno is dotted by dozens of wineries using blends of Cabernet, Merlot and other red grape varietals to produce a fairly new red wine called Bolgheri DOC. With the explosion of the wine industry, also the food scene here naturally followed.
